How Local Communities Can Support the My Orphans Project

The First Step

The My Orphans project is a humanitarian initiative aimed toward helping orphans in Afghanistan, India, Iraq, Lebanon, Pakistan and even the United States of America. This project is maintained entirely through volunteer efforts and 100% of all donations go to the orphans.

For all of those volunteers who would love to participate in this most noble project, and receive the honor and reward of the Almighty (swt) for serving orphans, the first step is to register as regional member. (Click here to register.)

Other Ways to Support the My Orphans Project

There are many ways local volunteers can support this project, including taking the initiative to work on ideas that they believe will be beneficial in their local communities. Some ideas on how to support this noble cause include, but are not limited to, the following:

Perhaps the simplest and easiest way volunteers can support this project is to forward email announcements that are sent frequently by My Orphans. An occasional email reminder to friends, colleagues, and community members can go a long way. Volunteers can also share these announcements through their social media pages such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. Click here to subscribe to our list.

Volunteers can create their own outreach initiative by calling individuals in their networks and spreading the word about My Orphans. A telephone conversation can enable volunteers to use their own words to encourage others to visit the My Orphans website and guide them to make a donation.
Volunteers can hold regular social gatherings in a more casual setting (such as in their home, a local park, Islamic Center, Community Center, etc.) to distribute flyers/pamphlets or to discuss some local programs. Attendees can be asked for a monthly subscription and/or a one-time donation as well.
Many charitable causes are supported through the proceeds of fundraising sales. Perhaps the most popular kind are food sales, such as candy, pizza, and bake sales. These events are fun for community members and their families, especially the children, and at the same time a noble project is being supported.
Volunteers may work on fundraising dinners during the holy month of Ramadan. The month of Ramadan is a time when we are reminded of the plight and hunger of others and the less fortunate. Many believers, during this time, wish to do something to help others, but simply do not know how. Local volunteers can coordinate with local Islamic centers to hold fundraising Iftar dinners for the orphans. These events can then be advertised throughout the community to draw participants who would be more than happy to donate, and contribute to the My Orphans effort.

The above are just a few ideas and the possibilities for our esteemed, bright volunteers are endless. My Orphans welcomes all suggestions.

Interacting with the Community

  1. Power point presentation: (Coming Soon)
  2. Documentaries and video clips
  3. Reward Certificates: (Coming Soon)

When volunteers collect pledges or donations, the following procedure should be followed:

  1. Obtain a receipt book that includes a duplicate carbon copy. (These can be readily obtained at Staples or any major Office supply store). Volunteers must issue a receipt to the donors immediately, listing all details of the donor such as the full name, phone number, email, and mailing address.
  2. Please contact frontdesk@myorphans.us for information on how to handle cash and check contributions and financial institution information.  Make sure that you have a copy of all checks and money orders, and a copy of bank deposit slips.
  3. Once the first two steps are completed, volunteers must send all the paperwork to the My Orphans Accounting Department as follows:
    1. By Postal Mail
    2. By Email: Scan all documents, then email them to frontdesk@myorphans.us.
  4. Once all the paperwork has been reviewed and processed, an official electronic receipt from My Orphans will be sent to every donor.

Adhering to the aim and goals of My Orphans, please document your activities with any available tools such as photography, video, and voice recordings, then post them on the social media network of your choice. You may send all media to frontdesk@myorphans.us with a short report to be posted on the website.

Appreciation

Needless to say, the best and most important appreciation is given by the Almighty (swt) and His Holy Prophet (pbuh & hf). In addition, the My Orphans project would like to offer a Certificate of Appreciation to all those who participate in this noble project.
